data quality matters

While the title may seem self-evident, in the rush to make scientific progress on Covid-19, there apparently is little time to ask enough questions about the data used for various analysis. Science talks about data that was used in studies linking chloroquine to irregular heartbeats (and resulting in a number of clinical trials being halted). While the papers were reviewed and published, some had questions and dug a little deeper into the data sources – leading to even more questions.

We’ll see where the dust settles on this, but in an era where science is being pressured for answers *now*, the rush to analyze and made judgements is stronger than ever. All the more reason for increased vigilance, not to stifle progress but to maintain integrity and ensure veracity, as best we can.
