IP claims to the rescue?

Krebs on Security discussing Microsoft’s use of IP infringement (in this case, Trademark) to go after botnets that spread ransomware. In court filings from last week in VA, Microsoft argues that the Trickbot botnet causes customer confusion by using Microsoft logos and other marks after infecting a machine. Hard for the courts to argue against that, so Microsoft got the green light to start taking out bot servers.

You can read the Microsoft blog post about the action here. In addition, US Cyber Command has been working hard as well, going after Trickbot. All of this is partially driven by the impending election – along with botnets being being a general problem.
