the clock is ticking for YouTube?

A piece on discussing data from App Annie showing that TikTok is beating YouTube. Of course the devil is in the details – the data is for app users and is looking at average time per user spent on the apps (which is an engagement measure). YouTube still wins on sheer numbers – way more users. But “per capita”, TikTok is now king.

Interesting to see how the social media landscape moves. Can the 800 lb gorillas (e.g. YouTube, Facebook) be dethroned? Time will tell. Back in the dark ages of the internet, many though that MySpace would reign supreme forever, and before that AOL. Of course the business models and market penetrations were much different back then, but if history teaches us anything, it is that eventually every dynasty falls. Just a question of when and how bloody the battles are…
